The Mavericks have always kept fans and the competition on their toes. They are also a team that always seems to have a surprise up their sleeve. Just when they seem to be doing a nosedive, they will pull themselves up for a successful victory. The Dallas Mavericks are currently based in Dallas, Texas, and are part of the National Basketball Association's western conference and southwest division. They play their home games at the American Airlines Center and so far, have 2 division wins and one conference title to their name. Stunning Team, Struggling Team The Mavericks were born in 1980 and were named after the television show of the same name- this was because the star of that show, James Garner, was part of the ownership team. After making a number of good picks, both in terms of players and personnel, the Mavericks went on to beat the Spurs in their debut game, 103-92. Interest began to pick up for Dallas Mavericks tickets since the team looked like they were going to make a big impression on the NBA. But the Mavericks began to struggle soon after their first win. They began the season with a weak record of 6-40 and by the end of the season, they were 15-67. However, some key players were added to the roster and they proved to be strong assets for the team. By 1982, the Mavericks were emerging as strong forces on the court. From 1985 to 1987, sales of Dallas Mavericks tickets rose considerably, as it looked like the team was strong contenders for the championships. Things hit absolute rock-bottom from 1992 to 1994. Even though efforts were made to rebuild the team and bring in new players, the Mavericks rounded off the 1992-1993 season, with the second worst record in the NBA. This was a long fall, considering that just ten years ago, they had been one of the NBA's elite. The new millennium saw a new day dawn on the Mavericks team. In 2001, the team really bounced back and was able to sell out Dallas Mavericks tickets on their home turf. In 2006 and 2007, the Mavericks were able to bring in some conference and division titles, further establishing the fact that the team was definitely on the rise. Today, the Mavericks are strong contenders for a championship win, something they have been very close to a number of times.
